04. CLEANSE Charcoal Face Wash by Chilogy Skincare Series Review

First things first, what is ‘Activated’ Charcoal?

It is regular charcoal, ‘activated’ by addition of oxygen (being oxidized) using steam or air at high temperature.

Why is that helpful? It expands the surface area of the charcoal. Thus it can detoxify the skin and shrink your pores (Astringent).

Rooibos Leaf Extract is rich in flavonoids which go a long way in uplifting and maintaining skin health.

Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt form of Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid helps skin retain water, keeping it soft and maintaining skin volume.

Overall, this is a mild option, complete with rich foam to ensure a comforting cleanse.

The following are the main ingredients.

The Best Cleansing Face Wash for Sensitive Skin

05. Alba Botanica Acnedote, Deep Pore Wash Review

2% Salicylic Acid exfoliates your skin, clearing dead skin cells that otherwise may build up and clog your pores. It also soothes your skin.

Parsley Extract helps the skin resist aging and reduce lines, wrinkles and scars. Parsley Extract may also help reduce acne. In fact, you could also try out an anti-acne mask of Parsley Extract and Honey in a base of Apple Cider Vinegar.

Coco-Betaine is a suitably mild foaming and cleansing agent and won’t irritate sensitive skin.

In addition to conditioning your skin, Nettle Extract has anti-histamine and anti-inflammatory qualities that help your skin resist disorders like eczema.

The face wash has a creamy consistency but feels cool and gel-like once you apply it on your skin.

However one caveat is that you should not use excessive amounts. It could feel abrasive in that case.

The key ingredients are tabled below.

It contains some innovative ingredients like Parsley Extract and Nettle Extract which help your skin resist aging, reduce scars and are anti-inflammatory.

What I Didn’t Like

Neem, Witch Hazel, Nettle and Lemon Balm Extracts may be sensitizing to your skin.

Using an excessive amount may be counter-productive.

What should I look for in selecting a face wash for sensitive skin?

Sensitive skin isn’t something that’s easily identified, medically speaking.

However, in layman’s terms, if your skin stings, itches or breaks out easily, you would be said to have ‘sensitive skin’.

As you can probably work out, a face wash for ‘sensitive skin’ would be just a face wash that is generally good for skin (I mean, you’d want to avoid stinging and itching even if you didn’t have sensitive skin).

With one caveat: You should try to avoid face washes containing ingredients that are too harsh.

For example you should avoid Denatured Alcohol. Denatured Alcohol gives your skin a quick matte look however it will dry out and sensitize your skin in the long run.

Let’s just go over the critical properties you should look out for

OK, what do you want your oil to do?

Exfoliant to clear away dead skin cells accumulated on the skin surface and de-clog pores.

Astringent to shrink your pores.

Foaming generally ensures a more thorough cleanse and makes the cleansing process comfortable.

Cleansing and Foaming agents should be mild. These are the ingredients most likely to be abrasive or drying which is why you need to look out for them especially.

Antioxidants stop free radical damage thus keeping your skin firm and helping it resist aging and environmental damage.

Humectants attract moisture to the skin surface and emollients replenish the skin surface with oils. They are moisturizers helping keep skin soft and supple.

Added fragrance/’parfum’ should also be avoided because those generally comprise volatile oils which are sensitizing to the skin.

As Clint Eastwood would say, that’s enough of that. Let’s now talk about which one of the 5 Hottest Face Washes for Sensitive Skin is the best

As always, I’ll leave you with what I think is a clear winner.

CLEANSE Charcoal Face Wash by Chilogy Skincare Series

It’s doesn’t contain de-natured alcohol, parabens or added fragrance.

Activated Charcoal is medically recognized as a potent detoxifying and cleansing agent AND as an astringent.

It contains a number of essential Vitamins like pro-Vitamin B5, Vitamin C and Vitamin E.

Rooibos Leaf Extract (flavonoids) and Green Tea Leaf Extract are powerful antioxidants.

Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid) helps your skin retain water, sustaining volume and keeping it soft.

The cleansing and foaming agents are mild. Overall it ensures a great foamy cleanse.

That’s it. If you feel there’s a face wash for sensitive skin out there that deserves to make it into my list, drop a comment below. The good ones will get a shout-out on Twitter and Facebook and may even be included here with attribution.
