The Best Essential Oil For Hair

01. Lagoon Essentials’ 100% Pure Pomegranate Seed Oil Review

The oil is obtained by cold pressing the pomegranate seeds.

Pomegranate seed oil has a very powerful anti-oxidant property.

It can protect our hair from the harmful effects of environmental pollution. It gently dislodges dirt particles from the scalp and unclogs hair follicles.

It stimulates blood flow to hair roots. This nourishes hair and sustains hair growth.

The anti-pruritic property (in plain English, stopping itching) of pomegranate seed oil is well known. So it can easily cure conditions like scalp psoriasis and scalp eczema.

Pomegranate seed oil is also a natural aphrodisiac and it can reduce joint pain. Click To Tweet

The brand we would recommend would be Lagoon Essentials’ 100% Pure Pomegranate Seed Oil.

And for a carrier we would recommend coconut oil and almond oil. You could also mix it into your shampoo (NEVER USE MORE THAN A FEW DROPS).

Warning: We suggested almond oil as a good carrier. Before using it, please make sure you are NOT allergic to almond otherwise you may get a potentially fatal anaphylactic shock.

What I Liked

Anti-oxidant.

Cleanses your scalp.

Stimulates blood flow.

Anti-Psoriasis.

Anti-Eczema.

Has other benefits like reducing joint pain and fighting cancer.

What I Didn’t Like

People with sensitive skin may find it irritating to their scalp.

If you have a plant allergy you may find yourself allergic to pomegranate as well.

The Best Essential Oil For Hair Growth

02. Radha Beauty’s Therapeutic Grade Rosemary Essential Oil Review

Rosemary oil is obtained by steam-distilling the rosemary plant.

Leading arometherapist Valeria Ann Worwood recommends the use of rosemary oil to stimulate hair growth.

Rosemary oil has a high ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) value. This means it is a very powerful anti-oxidant.

Rosemary oil dilates blood vessels and promotes microcirculation (circulation of blood in the smallest blood vessels which are embedded within organ tissue). This provides hair roots with nourishment and prevents hair loss.

One thing I particularly liked about Rosemary oil is that it prevents traction alopecia. Traction alopecia is hair loss from constant strain on hair. For example, if you’re into sports you would tie your hair into a bun. That exerts strain on your hair and will lead to hair loss. Rosemary will help your hair resist this. Rosemary oil also prevents your hair from getting too oily. This prevents dandruff formation.

Rosemary oil is also a good anti-microbial agent. Rosemary oil also helps increase your cognitive function, helps your digestive system and improves gall bladder function.

The brand we would recommend would be Radha Beauty’s Therapeutic Grade Rosemary Essential Oil. We would recommend coconut oil as a good carrier oil. You may massage rosemary oil into your scalp directly but DO NOT USE MORE THAN 5 DROPS.

What I Liked

 Powerful anti-oxidant.

Promotes microcirculation (circulation within organ tissue) which nourishes hair.

Prevents hair loss from strain e.g. from tying your hair into a bun.

 Prevents hair from getting oily.

 Good anti-microbial agent.

Has other benefits like increasing cognitive function, helping you digest your food better and improving gall bladder function.

What I Didn’t Like

It is better to avoid Rosemary oil if you’re pregnant or lactating.

Rosemary releases a salicyclate which is similar to aspirin. If you’re allergic to aspirin you should avoid rosemary oil.

Rosemary oil may encourage bleeding. AVOID Rosemary oil if you take anticoagulants.

Rosemary may have a diuretic effect on you, raising the risk of dehydration.

03. Roman Chamomile Essential Oil Review

If you’re an essential oils enthusiast, you may wonder why Roman Chamomile Essential and why not German Chamomile?

Roman chamomile is a small evergreen perennial plant. Whereas German Chamomile is a taller seasonal plant. Roman chamomile has a subtle apple-like smell whereas German Chamomile smells like fresh straw.

Roman Chamomile is good at calming you down, particularly during menstrual and menopausal periods. This is because it contains the ester of Angelic Acid (sounds divine, doesn’t it?).

In general you should know that any essential oil rich in esters will have a very soothing effect. Click To Tweet

It is also a powerful antibiotic agent and will kill lice and mites when applied to your hair.

In addition to this it will also be good for your stomach and liver.

We would recommend Roman Chamomile Essential Oil by Aviano Botanicals.

Jojoba oil would be a good choice for a carrier. However you may directly apply very small quantities (NOT MORE THAN 5-10 DROPS) to your hair.

What I Liked

 Soothing.

 Anti-Lice.

What I Didn’t Like

If you are allergic to plants like ragweed, chrysanthemum, marigold, daisy chances are you are allergic to Roman Chamomile as well. DO NOT USE IN THAT CASE.

Better avoided if you are pregnant or lactating.

The Best Essential Oil For Anxiety

04. Utilax Best Lavender Essential Oil Review

If your key concern was being stressed, you’d say lavender oil’s a no-brainer.

Lavender oil slows down the nervous system which reduces the agitation in our nerves, calming us. Lavender oil helps your body produce very powerful anti-oxidant substances like glutathione and catalase.

Lavender also promotes blood circulation and has anti-microbial properties. Since it’s so well-known for its soothing quality you can use it for headaches, insomnia and irritability. Lavender is also very useful for treating diabetes.

We would recommend Utilax Best Lavender Essential Oil. Extra virgin olive oil or almond oil would be a good carrier for lavender oil. You may even apply it directly to hair BUT USE NO MORE THAN 5-10 DROPS.

Warning: As always, before using almond oil check whether you are allergic to it. Otherwise you could experience a potentially fatal anaphylactic shock.

What I Liked

Soothing.

Helps body produce very powerful anti-oxidants.

Increases blood circulation.

Has anti-microbial properties.

Also useful for headaches, insomnia and diabetes.

What I Didn’t Like

Do not apply to pre-pubescent boys because it may disturb their hormonal balance.

It slows down the Central Nervous System. So avoid if you are taking narcotics like oxycodone or sedatives like lorazepam.

05. Essential Oil Labs Argan Oil Review

The Argan plant mainly grows in a single 8000 sq km area in Morocco. The area has been designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

Argan oil is a symbol of women’s development in Morocco because a number of women’s cooperatives are involved in producing it.

Argan oil’s most important ingredient is Oleic acid. This acid is a potent emollient. This gives Argan oil a moisturizing property. Keeping the scalp moisturized reduces the chances of itchiness, flakiness and so on.

If you have dandruff, massage NO MORE THAN 10 DROPS of Argan oil into your scalp and put a shower cap on before turning in for the night. Your scalp will absorb the oil and dandruff will start disappearing.

Argan oil will take care of split ends and frizzy hair. It will make hair more manageable and give it a shiny look. Thus it acts as a natural conditioning agent.

It is also a good conditioner for lips, nails, heels and feet.

We picked the Essential Oil Labs Argan Oil brand.

Good carriers would be coconut oil or jojoba oil.

What I Liked

 Moisturizes scalp.

 Removes dandruff.

 Natural conditioner.

What I Didn’t Like

As always, avoid use if you are pregnant or lactating.

Argan oil contains alpha-linoleic acid (ALA). ALA is good for cardiovascular diseases but some studies suggest it increases the risk of prostate cancer.

What did I look for?

If you think about it, there are two aspects to hair care.

One would be to eliminate the hair problem (hair loss, dandruff, itchy scalp etc) you have.

The other would be taking care of hair and keeping it healthy even after your problem stops.

OK, what do you want your oil to do?

The first thing that comes to mind when I think about hair problems is lice. You need oils that are anti-lice.

A close second is dandruff. Dandruff is formed by dead skin cells, oil and sebum. So you need oils that will gently clean your scalp of these.

Sebum-producing cells have receptors for stress hormones. So stress-relieving oils would reduce sebum production.

Scalp Psoriasis is another common problem that can lead to hair loss and other problems. So I looked for an anti-psoriasis oil.

Dandruff is created by a problem called eczema. You should thus be looking for anti-eczema oils.

You should look for anti-oxidant properties because there is evidence anti-oxidants keep hair healthy and prevent hair loss.

Blood circulation is essential to keeping your hair healthy. So you’d want your oil to help blood circulation.

All the oils we’ve discussed have their pros and cons. While you should always see for yourself which oil would suit the best, I have chosen a winner among them.

And that would be….

Essential Oil Labs Argan Oil

Argan oil for the simple reason that it clears dandruff, resolves itchy problems like psoriasis and acts as a natural conditioner.

You can mix Argan oil, coconut oil and honey in the ratio 1:2:2 and massage it into your hair. Keep it for 1 hour and then shampoo your hair. Your hair will feel lustrous and shiny when you’re done.

If you’re looking for a relaxing experience, you could add some lavender oil to this as well.

One thing you should always remember while using essential oils is that these oils are highly concentrated and potent. So whenever you’re using a ‘100% pure’ essential oil it is advisable to use them in a ‘carrier’ like a face wash or a carrier oil like almond oil. And always remember to use a very small amount for a single application.

Happy Hair Day!
